The Department of Radiation Medicine welcomes Hofstra and visiting medical students for virtual and in person elective rotations. The department also offers numerous summer research opportunities and can host first and second year students to gain exposure to radiation oncology early in medical school. We also actively participate in Hofstra’s career night so medical students can learn more about our field early in their career.
All elective experiences offer structured time in the department and give broad exposure to the daily practice of a radiation oncologist. Students will participate in the evaluation, work-up and treatment of patients. In addition, introductory lectures to physics and dosimetry are offered. Medical Students are expected to participate in all department conferences and didactics, and fourth year medical students are expected to give a 30-minute presentation on a clinical or research topic of their choice at the end of their four-week rotation. Lastly, a virtual rotation option for medical students has been available since 2020.
Visiting students interested in applying for an elective rotation should apply through the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS). Upon approval, you will be in contact with our program administrator, Tabitha Doxsey.
